When we dissected a sheep

On Friday morning Mr Chapman told us that pat was coming to school, he said that he was going to dissect a sheep to see all of the body parts because we are learning about the muscles of the body, we dissected a sheep because a sheep almost has the same body parts as the human body. After morning tea me went back inside and then pat arrived and we went outside by the offal hole bought a sheep over and Mr Chapman said that we have to wear gloves if we wanted to hold some parts of the sheep. Then pat got his knife and cut the sheep open first he showed us the Stomach and then he cut the ribs off and cut the kidneys out and put them on the ground he also cut out the small intestine and we stretched it out and it was 14 meters long, and Pat said that a humans small intestine is about 30 meters long, then he cut open the rumen and it was full of digested grass and Mr Chapman felt the inside edge of it and he said that it was the weirdest thing that he had ever felt. Then Mr Chapman told us to all put some gloves so that we could hold some of the sheep’s body parts, First pat handed out the liver and we all had a feel of it and it felt really slimy and then we all had another feel of the small intestine then he cut out the bottom of its mouth and then he showed us the wind pipe and how the ear gets to the heart and how the heart pumps the blood around the body. Then he cut out the eye and the lens of the eye came out and we felt it and it felt like hard jelly, After that we went back in school and the sheep went down the offal hole.

We have learned about PMIs. I will sometimes use to plan writing. I liked doing it because I liked thinking about the questions.
We also did geometry. I learned slides, flips and turns and the names of shapes.
We also practiced our basic facts and I’m getting really fast.
I really liked learning about the body. We learned about the heart, the names of bones and about the muscles and veins.
I liked watching the Sunsmart video at Beach Ed. I like swimming too.
I like doing art with Mrs Fergus. I like painting.
Doing athletics was fun because I got to see lots of my friends. My favourite event was racing and long jump.
I like reading time because I like doing expressive writing and learning how to spell words.
Having tennis with Big John was exciting. He is a professional coach. He taught me how to serve and do backhands.
At the start of the term we did swimming. Swimming is cool because I like swimming. It’s good learning how to do freestyle and breaststroke.

At school we had to build some new computer desks. When we start making the desk we thought that it was going to be exiting but when we first got the stuff out, we were so confused about the instructions!
Then the first thing we had to do was to get into two groups. In one group we had Connie, Justin, Roma and Maddy. In the other group we had Kelly, Angus, Caterina and Scott. Our team was with Kelly.
The first thing we had to do was trying to figure out which way the boards had to go. On our one we did one thing wrong. We put a board up side down but it didn’t really show.
It took about the time from morning tea to lunch.

First we went in the dining room to know all the rules and where we are allowed to go.
The first thing I was doing was doing archery. When it was my turn I got two bulls eyes in the blue dot. I liked shooting arrows at the board. Then after that I got very tired and nearly went to sleep.
Next we were going on the flying fox. When it was my turn on the flying fox, I went down very fast. When I hopped off I felt dizzy, but it was still very cool. Then I would line up with the other kids and wait for my next turn.
After lunch we played Predator. I liked predator, it was fun. We played on a big hill. I was a pig. I died because the rabies caught me. When I was walking up the hill I got a big stitch, so I sat down to have a rest. When the game was finished we had to go all the way back down.
The last thing we were doing that day was going with Bushman Bob in the bush. Next up we were learning to use a map in the bush. I got a stitch then too because we were doing a lot of walking. We were doing that with Bushman Bob.

To get over to the bush we got to have a ride on the trailer being pulled by a motor bike. That made it faster to get there. The first thing we were doing in the bush was making bivvies, which are little huts you can make in the bush. The bivvie that I made got the score of 9 out of 10. Then we went back on the trailer to the camp site and went back home for the day.
The next day the we did a river study with Mr Archer. I used a magnifying glass to look at the bugs from the river that we got. We used some tweezers to pick up the bugs and put them into the tray with squares. Then I got more bugs to look at and after that we went back to camp and had lunch.
After lunch we did orienteering, we were given maps and we had to follow it to different places. We found all of the places from the map. I got a stitch when I was walking around.
We did team building and went on the balancing platform and we had to stand on the edge. We had to start again because it tipped and touched the ground because
we were too heavy. We restarted and won because we got all our team on the platform without it tipping.
We used a parachute and we lifted it up and down and then we put balls on it and we had to make sure the balls didn’t fall off. But the balls fell through the holes. The tennis balls fell off where William was but they didn’t fall where I was. We played a game where 5, 6 or 7 were called out and you had to run under the parachute
without it touching you. If it touched you, you had to sit down, I didn’t get touched but Connor did.
At the end of the day we played on the playground, I played on the rope bridge.

Poetry

Feelings Poem
A feeling poem says how you feel.

Hungry
When I’m hungry I eat snickers,
When I’m hungry I like biscuits,
When I’m hungry I love chops,
But I don’t eat the fridge.

Tanka (Japanese Nature Poem)
A tanka poem has 5,7,5,7,5 syllables in the lines.

Orange Tree
Growing in summer,
Green leaves, yummy oranges,
Growing in gardens.
Rats living under the tree,
Mice under there too.

When we flew kites at our school it was fun. There was not much wind when we flew our kites. It was sunny when we flew our kites. When we flew the dragon kite that we made Nina was holding the kite at the back and when they started to run Nina tripped up! Kelly's kite flew well.

My name is Scott. I am five and live in Makahu.
